Our HT3000DC-500mA is a DC only tester, with the ability to deliver up to 500mA to the EUT. Leakage current limits can be set with the front panel knob from 25mA to 500mA. Normal operation stops testing when a leakage current greater than the set amount or when a dielectric breakdown is encountered. If desired, testing can be set to continue to burn problem areas. Testing will continue until the design current limit of the tester is exceeded; at which time the output voltage will return to zero.

Regarding the ripple current in DC hipot testers, lower ripple requires larger filter capacitors, which store more power that is normally used to smooth the rectified waveform. In the case of a hipot tester, this stored power has the side effect of discharging into the EUT in the event of a failure. In order to keep the power that must be absorbed by the EUT within reasonable limits, we have struck a balance between lower ripple and excessive power. If your requirements dictate lower ripple, please let us know and we can quote accordingly. As a final note, we can build the tester to use 3 phase power to improve ripple and not increase the size of the filter capacitors.
