There are two versions of the PXIe-1085. The specifications are the same, except the maximum system bandwidth. The max bandwidth for the NI PXIe-1085 Chassis part number 781813-01 is 12 GB/s, while the max bandwidth for the NI PXIe-1085 Chassis part number 783588-01 is the 24 GB/s.

The hybrid connector type in every peripheral slot allows the most flexibility in terms of instrumentation module placement. It also incorporates all the features of the latest PXI specifications, including support for both PXI and PXI Express modules with a built-in 10 MHz reference clock, a PXI trigger bus, and a PXI star trigger for PXI modules. There is also a built-in 100 MHz reference clock, SYNC100, and PXI differential star trigger for PXI Express modules.

The PXIe-1085 Chassis has 16 hybrid slots and 1 PXI Express system timing slot, high performance, up to 4 GB/s per-slot dedicated bandwidth for all slots, 12 GB/s or 24 GB/s maximum system bandwidth, and compatibility with PXI, PXI Express, CompactPCI, and CompactPCI Express modules. The device operates on software provided by the PXI Platform Services 3.0 (or higher versions) software media, and can be configured using the Measurement & Automation Explorer (MAX) tool. Also, it is equipped with 2 SMA connectors. The PXI chassis weighs 40.3 lb and has the dimensions: 6.97 x 18.30 x 19.38 inches.

The NI PXIe-1085 Chassis has a remote power-inhibit control and variable speed fan controller to optimize cooling and acoustic emissions. Its 38.25 W per slot cooling meets increased PXIe cooling requirements. The device has a low-jitter internal 10 MHz reference clock for PXI/PXI Express slots with ± 25 ppm stability, and a low-jitter internal 100 MHz reference clock for PXI Express slots with ± 25 ppm stability. The NI PXIe-1085 is AC powered and its power, temperature, and fan monitoring features are highly reliable, as the device is HALT tested for increased reliability. This model additionally has quiet operation for 0 to 30 °C at 51.2 dBA.
