Description

The Model BH-l is a precision pulse generator which simulates the broad range of tail pulses encountered in the nuclear field. Several instruments of Model BH-1 may be synchronized together to provide test pulses of various shapes and amplitudes to check out a system. Typical applications of the Model BH-l include: determining the proper timing of linear gates and coincidence units, linearity measurements of amplifiers, threshold setting of discriminators and single channel analyzers, and measuring resolution of low noise preamplifiers.

A front panel toggle, SNGL/DBL PULSE, provides for the generation of two identical pulses whose separation is varied by the delay controls. Thisfeature is useful in resolution and recovery time tests.

A dc or time-varying signal may be connected to the pulse forming circuit via an external reference connector. When the highly linear ramp from Berkeley Nucleonics Model LG-1 is connected, the output is a sliding pulse train(linearly increasing and decreasing amplitude pulses) to 11.7 volts amplitude. The differential linearity of the sliding pulses will be better than 0.25% above 100 mV. The sliding pulse train is one of the most convenient and accurate ways of testing the differential linearity of a pulse height analyzer.
