Description
TOTAL BATTERY SUPPORT: The CASP/1500 is a versatile, user-friendly, microprocessor-based, precision instrument for keeping rechargeable batteries of all types ready and able to deliver their rated ampere-hours. All the functions necessary for achieving this performance level are provided by the CASP/1500, including appropriate charging, battery condition analysis, and battery reconditioning. By using the CASP/1500, rechargeable batteries, as well as the equipment and systems they power, become more reliable and cost effective. KEYBOARD PROGRAMMING: As supplied, the CASP/1500 is preprogrammed to handle up to 32 popular battery types. However, the system can be conveniently programmed from its integral keyboard, and can be adapted to the parameters of other rechargeable batteries, or to any new battery developed. The CASP/1500 can also be used to program members of the CASP family which cannot be programmed from their own keyboards. UNIVERSAL APPLICATION: The CASP/1500 can provide the power for rechargeable battery processing in a broad range of applications, including aircraft systems, medical devices, portable electronic instruments, electronic newsgathering equipment, and military electronics. The input power flexibility of the CASP/1500 allows the system to be used worldwide. POWERFUL SOFTWARE: The CASP/1500 employs Christies new operating system, the latest and most powerful software available in the CASP series of battery support systems. Some of the important benefits offered by this software are improved processing for lead-acid batteries, considerably expanded data plotting capabilities, accelerated plotting time for printer outputs, and significant improvements in the layout of the printer report. COST EFFECTIVENESS: Processing batteries with the CASP/1500 can reduce overall battery costs. The charge cycle is usually shorter and more efficient, improving battery reliability and service life. For nickel-cadmium batteries, a reconditioning function provided by Christies ReFLEX ® charger actually allows weak batteries to be returned to useful service. This dramatic capability alone justifies the cost of the CASP/1500. SYSTEM CAPABILITIES: CASP/1500 is a user-friendly instrument, designed to make the care and maintenance of rechargeable batteries simple and straight-forward. The system offers a number of key features and benefits as follows: BATTERY CHARGING: Because the CASP/1500 has been designed to process rechargeable batteries of all types: nickel-cadmium, nickel-metal hydride, lead-acid, lithium, and others-the system is able to provide precisely the kind and amount of charging current each battery requires. This capability includes reverse-pulse, constant-current, two-level constant-current, and constant-potential charging, as well as optimized fast charging or trickle charging. In addition, batteries can be discharged for storage or shipment. BATTERY ANALYSIS The CASP/1500 can analyze the charge and discharge capacity of any battery connected to the system, and report that condition on an LCD display or optional serial printer. From the display or the hard-copy printout, it can be determined what action is appropriate for the battery. CASP/1500 SYSTEM OPERATION
  • The CASP/1500 is an intelligent battery support system which provides analysis, charging, and reconditioning functions for rechargeable batteries. Up to six batteries of varied types may be connected to the system simultaneously.
  • Battery inputs are sequentially polled, identified, and appropriately processed. The brain of the system is a microprocessor, which initiates and controls the process which the user has selected. This process is carried out automatically, using the battery parameters which have been entered into the microprocessors memory during programming. The status of each selected process may be monitored on the LCD display. The display can also serve as a digital voltmeter or ammeter for the connected batteries, or as a battery identifier or programming aid. In addition, an internal speaker emits various tones for input verifications, errors, and process termination. The CASP/1500 can be connected to an optional serial printer, which provides a printout of the processes which have been performed, or a plot of battery charge and discharge curves. Programming of the CASP/1500 may be accomplished by means of the alphanumeric keypad on the instruments front panel. It is also possible from this keypad to program the CASP/1200 and CASP/1100. The CASP/1500 is a technologically sophisticated system, yet very simple and straightforward in operation. As such, it is the most advanced battery support equipment on the market for its chosen applications. BATTERY RECONDITIONING The CASP/1500 uses Christies exclusive ReFLEX charger in the processing of nickel-cadmium batteries. In addition to charging these batteries faster and more efficiently, the unique current waveform generated by the charger actually reconditions the battery, substantially eliminating battery memory and often restoring batteries to serviceable condition. Consistent use of the ReFLEX charger also minimizes battery deterioration. BATTERY RECOGNITION The CASP/1500 has six channels which automatically process up to six batteries of any type sequentially. The system recognizes the types of batteries connected to it, and provides the exact processing which is appropriate for that battery.
